where Flagstaff
the hike    This is a variation of the Sunset Trail to Mt. Elden summit loop that was hiked in 2016, avoiding the crowded trail that goes directly to the summit. We’ll begin this hike at the Schultz Tank trailhead, and connect to the Sunset Trail, taking it to the summit. We will be hiking through some burned forest (extent unknown).
Our return will be partially on the Sunset trail, but turning onto the Little Bear Trail north of Little Elden Mountain and going down to meet the Little Elden Springs trail. From that trail, we’ll hike back uphill to the Schultz Tank Trailhead.
If two or more hikers want a shorter hike, you can return to the trailhead on the Sunset Trail, which is 10.5 miles. No solo hikers for this option.
