where Kaibab National Forest
the hike     Sycamore Canyon Wilderness is the second largest canyon in Arizona and it is equally scenic as the largest, Oak Creek Canyon. Sycamore Canyon Wilderness contains more than 50,000 acres of colorful cliffs, soaring pinnacles, and one of the world’s rarest habitats. You may encounter wildlife such as black bears, mountain lions, ringtail cats, and javelina.
The Sycamore Rim Trail was first proposed in 1975. It contains ponds, streams, cliffs and deep canyons which was unique. The Sycamore Falls Trailhead was added during the summer of 1988 to accommodate hikers.
The trail forms a loop with access at several points along it. The northern and western sections of this loop travel through ponderosa pine forests, first ascending to a ridgeline and then descending to Sycamore Falls, a 100-foot drop which, with the cooperation of monsoon rains, will be flowing. There may also be five or six small waterfalls along the way. The southern and eastern portions of the loop follow the scenic rim of Sycamore Canyon. We will be only doing the Pomeroy Tanks to Sycamore Rim over look. That includes Sycamore Falls.
Bring extra shoes & socks, we cross the stream a couple of times. See Map.
