where Horton Creek, Tonto National Forest / Mogollon Rim
the hike     Horton Springs is a scenic and cool hike amidst the ponderosa pines. From the trailhead we will follow the perennial Horton creek to its source at the springs beneath the ramparts of the Mogollon Rim.
    After a group picture, we will hiking a well-travelled trail that parallels the creek. The hike includes a non-stop show of waterfalls, fields of wildflowers, wild berries, and forests of maples. Fall colors could be in full bloom this time of year. We will stop frequently for photo opportunities.
    After 3 miles, We will take a break for snack/ lunch and return by the same route.

meet 6:30 AM in the parking lot of the Target Center on the south side of Shea Blvd., about a mile west of Highway 87 (Beeline). For those leaving their cars behind, please park up against the north curb away from Target. We will be at the Trailhead at 7:30AM and start hiking around 8:00AM.
drive
•  Take Highway 87 north to Payson.
From Payson drive about 17 miles east on State Route 260 to Tonto Creek Road (Forest Road 289) near Kohls Ranch.
Turn left onto FR 289 and drive for about a mile to Horton Creek Trailhead. The trailhead is across the road.
Paved roads to the trailhead, suitable for all vehicles.
