the hike |
This hike will take us around Mazatzal Peak, 7,884 ft. We will follow the Y Bar Trail
(#44), the Arizona Trail/Mazatzal Divide Trail (#23) and the Barnhardt Trail (#43).
We will hike in a clockwise direction. This is an "A" hike.
This hike is only for very experienced hikers, as it will be a strenuous, full day.
The initial climb will be on a rocky trail and strenuous for the first several miles.
We will pass through a small section with a variety of evergreens. This trail provides
beautiful views of the Mazatzal Wilderness, and depending on weather, recent rains
and snow melt, a rewarding view of the Big Kahuna Waterfall as we descend through
Barnhardt Canyon back to the trailhead.
This loop hike goes around the mountain named Mazatzal Peak but does not summit
the peak.
