the hike     Summer time, and the hikin’ is easy on the Mogollon Rim east of Promontory Butte. Enjoy the breeze and sweeping panoramas of the Rim Lakes Vista Trail, returning through the forest on the Military Sinkhole and General Crook Trails.
Those who prefer a longer hike can add the Meadow Trail for an additional 2 miles. For persons wanting to do an even longer hike, Michael will do the following: back on the General Crook and Rim Lakes Vista Trails to the Military Sinkhole. For persons wanting only 6 miles, you are back at your car. For persons wanting more, continue down the Military Sinkhole Trail to 260 Trailhead. This will make 9 miles. We will leave a car at the 260 Trailhead to get the drivers back to the top. This is like the Pine Canyon hike that Li led, inasmuch as we will come down a steep path with great views of the Verde Valley.
The Rim Lakes Vista Trail has been re-routed so that it doesn’t go near the communications tower or the road leading to it. The trail now takes a route eastward and connects to the old trail farther north.  See GPS Map.
