| the hike |
It is amazing how beautiful the area is with all of the Red Rocks in the background and the peacefulness of Oak Creek
at our turn around spot.
This is a scenic moderately level hike in the Red Rocks south of the Sedona. The group will meet at the second parking lot Trailhead (Court House Vista) as you leave the Village of Oak Creek (VOC) towards Sedona. From the Court House Vista Trailhead, we will start by hiking north on the Phone Line/Bell Rock Pathway to the junction of the Templeton Trail. From here we will work our way west through tunnels under the north and south lanes of Hwy 179, then continue on this trail past Cathedral Rock and continue west to a downhill section leading to Oak Creek. After a short snack break along Oak Creek we will hike back up onto the Templeton returning to our vehicles the way we started. After the hike participants can eat at numerous restaurants: examples of less expensive options are the Hideaway House on east side of Hwy 179 just south of the at the Y intersection of Hwy 179 and 89A in Sedona, the Coffee Pot with 101 omelets’ on west 89A in Sedona (open to 2) and south on way back to PHX - the El Patio west off the McGuireville exit off I-17 up the hill on the south side of the road. Leader will be staying in Sedona starting December 7 then returning home December 11. Most of the trails are well maintained, with many minor ups-downs. This is the slow-moderate paced hike. All hikers must stay together and wait for the group before making a turn. Required: • Sturdy hiking boots • At least 3 liters of water • Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: • Lunch or snacks • Camera • Your smiles :) |
