the hike |
The city of Prescott purchased 160 acres of land containing the Storm Trails in January,
2018. Design and construction started in February, 2018.
These relatively new trails showcase boulder fields, balanced rocks and impressive views of Granite Dells, Glassford Hill, Watson Lake and Granite Mountain. Begin at the Peavine Trailhead on Sundog Ranch Rd. Head North on Peavine for 1.3 miles. This trail is a wide dirt and gravel road running parallel to the railroad tracks. As Watson Lake begins to come into view we’ll see many species of birds, including Blue Heron and possibly Redtail Hawks. At 1.3 mi. turn right on the Captain’s Trail. This will take us up into the series of loop trails. We will return to Peavine by way of the Easter Island Trail, the name of which may become apparent along the way. Neil Dennis will lead this adventure with Billie Horn as co leader, trail sweep etc. Follow us back in time where, with a good memory and a little imagination, we may find ourselves in Bedrock with the likes of Fred and Wilma, or Betty and Barney. We’ll be up and down the huge boulders to places like “Yabba Dabba View” where you will want your camera handy. This hike is a real treat, especially for those who have never been to Watson Lake and the Granite Dells. |
