Arizona Trailblazers Hiking Club
Bassett Peak and Willcox Wine Weekend
when Trip Report : November 8-10, 2019
where Galiuro Wilderness, near Willcox
the hike     Bassett Peak in the Galiuro Wilderness is one of the top places in Arizona to view fall colors, and early November is the peak time to be there. This Arizona sky island is a hidden gem for hikers, so it is high time for the Trailblazers to enjoy it. We will see cactus, oaks, pines, and aspen. Even folks to want to turn back at the midway point at Ash Springs will get a nice taste of changing leaves.
We will go on Friday to Willcox and enjoy some vineyards wine tasting. Those who still have energy after the hike can sample some more wine Saturday evening. There aren’t any houses for rent in the area, so those interested should rent hotel rooms in Willcox asap. If you want to drive up Saturday or leave after the hike, it is possible, but it makes for a long day of driving (almost 5 hours each way from Phoenix). We will drive home Sunday morning.
