Dixie Mountain Day Hike

the hike     Please join us on this early morning exercise hike. We’ll hike the Dixie Mountain Loop and the Valley Verde Trail, Cactus Wren loop and the Desert Tortoise Trail to Hawk’s Nest to make it a bit longer. The trails are very well marked. We should see some hot air balloons.

Required:
•  Sturdy hiking boots
•  At least 3 liters of water
•  Hat, sunblock, sunglasses
Recommended:
•  Snacks
•  Camera
distance 8.2 miles; however, for those wishing a shorter hike, you can cut off at about 6 miles.
time 5-6 hours

elevations 1,138' to 2,037'
type Double-headed lollipop: 3 mile partial loop then we take a trail to a 2.4 mile loop and hike back, making for a hike of just over 8 miles (longer version).

meet 8:30 AM at the Desert Vista Trailhead.
drive To reach the Desert Vista Trailhead:
•  Exit I-17 at Jomax Road and head east.
Left on Norterra Parkway.
Right on North Valley Parkway.
Left on Copperhead Trail, then take the first left to Melvern Trail. The Fireside clubhouse is on the right.
On Melvern Trail, take the first right, drive straight back through the gate. Follow the road to the parking lot.
Desert Vista Trail starts at the parking lot.
Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
