Arizona Trailblazers Hiking Club
East Superstition Ridgeline Day Hike
when Saturday, March 27, 2021
where Superstition Mountains
the hike     Start on the Lost Goldmine Trail going by the Dacite Cliffs Mine, to the West Boulder Trail by Carney Springs. This part of the trail will be in shadow because sunrise is 7:15 AM, which is about when we start hiking.
The wildflowers may be blooming at this time, and this set of trails will give us a great view of them. With the current drought there may not be many flowers. At the Superstitions Ridgeline Trail, go right instead of left. For persons who have done the Superstitions Ridgeline, you can do the complete ridgeline with this hike. At this point we can look down at the valley and see if there are any flowers in bloom.
We are now on top of the Dacite Cliffs on the Dacite Mesa Trail. This is our first snack stop. This is the less traveled part of the Superstition Ridgeline Trail. The flowers up here will be small if present.
When we get to the Robber’s Meadow for their horses we will stop for lunch. There is a small spring here that causes this area to have moss, grass and other wildlife. After lunch, we hike down to the Robber’s Lookout area. The water has cut a little bowl under a large boulder here, which makes for nice traffic circle.
A little bit of climbing may be needed here. This leads to some windows above the Dacite Cliffs we passed on the hike in. The hike down and back up will be off trail.
We will then return to the meadow and pick up any of the group that decided to have a longer lunch here. Continue around the mesa and get to the trail down to Fremont Saddle. This part of the trail is long slow decent to Fremont Saddle. Going through Peralta Canyon we have a chance to see more flowers, arches and other rock formations. At the bottom we will take a horse trail or the road back to Lost Goldmine Trailhead.
