This is both a C and B class hike. I had to run out of town the last time this hike
was scheduled, so hopefully we can do it this time. I will need someone for the C
hike on its return to the cars. This starts at the Broadway Trailhead for the Lost
Goldmine trail and then picks up the Monument trail. Both trails run though the
open Superstition desert which could have flowers. This trail runs into Monument
Canyon which forms both sides of Flatiron. One branch is the west face and the
other branch is the east face.
The C hike will end at the start of the canyon, you will turn around here and return to the cars. The B hike continues off trail into the canyon. I have not done the off trail part so this will be an exploratory hike. The canyon is named for its petroglyphs and we will see if we can find them. If persons want to try out their GPS skills, this is a good area. Long pants are recommended for the "B" part of the hike, because it is off trail.
You can get good photos of the Superstitions Mountains as we walk toward them in the morning, and after you turn around on the walk back to the cars. There may be more flowers out on the way back.
The weather may be sunny or not. Be prepared for extreme desert weather. Bring a hat, sunscreen and some rain gear. We may have a late lunch at Uncle Bear’s Grill & Tap on our way back.
