Minutes - 2013 Executive Council, March 28, 2013 attendees: Chuck Parsons, Wendy Rennert, Becky Johnson, Ted Tenny Guest Speakers The officers brainstormed on ideas: * Rick or Joe: photography * Wildflower Gal * Superstition Search and Rescue * Karen, VA Hospital * Arizona Trail Association * Ranger B * North Mountain Visitors’ Center AI [Ted] — send a list of guest speakers at past AZHC meetings AI [Wendy, Chuck] — contact potential speakers for July and November Officers for 2014 A dozen names were mentioned as possible nominees for President and Vice President. At a later meeting we will prioritize them and start contacting potential candidates. Executive Session A concern was discussed in Executive Session. Mysterious and violent deaths seem to haunt the Superstition Mountains. During its brief recorded history several hundred people are supposed to have lost their lives. He knows from personal experience, while hiking these mountains over the last 20 years, the mystery and danger that the mountains bring to real life adventures. Guest Speaker: Karen White, Phoenix VA Hospital, gave a presentation on common hiking injuries and recommended treatments in the field. Fortunately we don’t encounter many injuries on our hikes, and the hike leader always carries a first-aid kit. Tonight we heard from an expert on how to properly treat and care for an injured hiker until we can reach professional medical care. Next Meeting Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 7:00 PM, Top Shelf.
