Eight of the Trailblazers’ finest set out from Pivot Rock Trailhead on
a warm spring day. Our hike was in two parts. The first was a bushwhack in
the side canyons to look for Cyd’s famous rock with a face. Her picture
shows a canyon with steep rock walls and pools of water.
Well, these canyons have a few boulders here and there, sloping sides with
forest carpet that is thick in places, and lots of fallen trees. We went up
one canyon, across a ridge to the next, and along the ridge to get a good
view of the canyons on both sides. The rock with a face is somewhere else.

Lizard and Turtle rocks cautiously watch our progress.

Where’s the water? The steep rock sides?

The second part of our hike was a delightful trail walk to the pioneer’s
cabin. Clouds rolled in to shade us and a cool breeze refreshed us as we
followed the trail from one side of Pivot Rock Canyon to the other.
The pioneer’s cabin is still there. We enjoyed our lunch on a log,
then divided into several groups for the walk back to the trailhead.
I chose the wildflower route.

This stone isn’t rolling, gathers moss.

The insects are very systematic around here.

Methinks the pioneer’s cabin needs roof repair.
