Camelback Mountain
January 29, 2000
by Joyce Parrish

Joyce, Mike, Julia, Darleen, Jeannie, Kay, Tom, Michelle, Jim, Gerry

Eleven people, including Darleen Lindquist, Jeannie & Tom Van Lew, Julia and Mike Staley, Gerry Kinley, Tim Stone (guest), Joyce Parrish, Kay Fitting, Jim & Michelle Kransberg hiked Camelback Mountain on the Cholla Trail. Kay Fitting and Joyce Parrish and led the hike. Having never led a hike before, Kay and Joyce climbed Cholla Trail January 22 also, so they would be prepared for leading a hike the following week. Now they are experts.

We all met promptly at 7:45 AM at the Red Robin at Los Arcos in Scottsdale and carpooled to Inverness to park before a short walk to the trailhead. The trail is gradual at the beginning with a very steep climb shortly before the top. Lots of boulder climbing. We were so prompt in leaving Los Arcos that we missed a couple, Dave and Yu-Ling Langford, and as we reached the top, so did they – from the Echo Canyon Trail.

What a view!

The weather was perfect and almost everyone made it to the top. The view of the valley and the Phoenician Resort was great.

After the hike, some of the hikers went to lunch at Red Robin and had greasy hamburgers and French fries to reward themselves for a job well done.
