Bismarck Lake Day Hike

where Flagstaff – South side of the San Francisco Peaks
the hike     From the trailhead go to the lake then to the AZT junction (Passage 34). We will stay to the left and take the AZT to FS 418. AZT goes through a mixed forest of ponderosa pine, aspen, and large Douglas fir. After we get to the AZT it is flat as Arizona trails go. We will stop when we get to FS 418 for a rest and lunch break. While the persons who left their cars at Bismarck Lake will take Les truck back and then pick up the hikers.
Required:
•  Sturdy hiking boots
•  At least 3 liters of water
•  Rain poncho and a flannel shirt or light jacket
•  Hat, sunblock, sunglasses
•  Lunch or snacks
Recommended:
•  Hiking poles
•  Camera
distance 5 miles
time 2-3 hours hiking time plus 6 hours R/T driving time to the trailhead.
EC +500' elevation change
elevations 8,500 feet at the trailhead to 9,000 feet on the AZT.

8:00 AM in the Target parking lot at the corner of Milton and University (just north of I-17) in the corner of the lot next to the traffic light.
drive
•  Take I-17 north to Flagstaff.
From Flagstaff, go north on US180 (Fort Valley Rd.) to milepost 235.2 and turn right onto Forest Road 151 (Hart Prairie Road, north access).
Continue on FR 151 and turn right onto Forest Road 627.
Follow 627 to end and the trailhead.
Dirt/cinder roads are rutted but passable by a carefully driven sedan.
