the hike |
The weather is looking mild and this hike will be AWESOME!
If you want to see what is being called the bright comet of 2024, come join us. If you miss the comet this year, you will have to wait 80,000 years to see it again. Because this is a long period comet, it has not burned off a lot of ice and gasses. The best days to see the comet are Oct. 12 and 13, when it is closest to Earth. After that it gets further away from earth and and the sun. I will use my truck to get us to the upper trail head. It is only 1 mile from the top. We can then take camp chairs and tripods to the top. We will watch the sun set and then wait for the comet. The comet will be a couple of degrees behind the sun. This will also be a good time for sun set pictures. Remember to Bring a flasslight, it will be dark on the way back down. Light jacket, it will get cold after the sun goes down. |
