the hike |
This is one of the state's most beautiful and remote hiking areas, and
this hike was featured as Hike of the Month in the November, 1996 issue of
Arizona Highways. The trail provides us with excellent views of the
western Santa Catalina Mountains and the north side of Pusch Ridge. The last 2 miles of the trail to Romero Pools are fairly difficult. Prepare for a rather steep, uphill climb through the Pusch Ridge Wilderness on rocky, uneven terrain with a few scrambles. The trail alternates between statuesque giant saguaros and forested areas of sycamore, oak and velvet ash, culminating in an area of picturesque pools, waterfalls, and water polished granite. We will stop at the pools for a lunch and rest break, before returning to the trailhead. Trailhead has restrooms and water spigots are available. Bring food for a picnic lunch after the hike. Required: • Sturdy hiking boots • At least 3 liters of water • Rain poncho • Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: • Lunch or snacks • Camera • Walking stick |
