The Devil's Chasm trail has not changed much since our last club visit. The trail follows a deep, wooded canyon. A spring comes out of a cliff about a mile beyond the campsite, beyond which the canyon narrows and we encountered the first low cliff, with a rabbit hole to scramble through. The rope here was a bit frayed, so we used one we brought with us. From here, the trail climbs to a second cliff with many hand and footholds, and another rope. The last 500 feet up the side of the canyon was the most challenging part of the hike.

The ruins were as spectacular as always, and this trip we found a clear trail to the lower level of ruins. Unfortunately, we did not have time to explore beyond that area. We found no sign whatsoever of the trail to the cave. We met two other hikers on the way down. We were not troubled by any sort of wildlife at the campsite, other than a few cows. The only other creatures we saw on the road were a few deer and a coyote.
