This afternoon was 99°—too hot to enjoy hiking. My bunch, starting from the river, did O.K. until after we met the others for lunch. The second half of our hike was beastly hot, with no shade and very little breeze. But we made it. I had a big jug of ice water in my car, much appreciated.

For Joe’s hikers going the other way, it was O.K. until after they met us for lunch. Then Rudy got separated from the group. Apparently there was no contact with him until he called Joe, some time after the hike, to say that he was back home. Joe, Michael, and Rudy can tell you the rest of the story. This prompted a review of our AZHC Guidelines.
