where	Sedona
the hike	The trail will take you up against the base of gorgeous red cliffs. It’s one of the best for viewing rock formations and the red and white sculptured cliffs of Maroon Mountain. The first 1.5 miles are in open country with almost no shade, so sunscreen and a hat are recommended.     This hike is described by Richard and Sherry Mangum in Sedona Hikes (9th ed.), pages 142-143.

weather	Sedona
meet in Phoenix	7:00 AM in the Fry’s parking lot on the SW corner of I-17 & Bell Road. Park behind Denny’s, near the entrance to the Deer Valley Park & Ride.
meet in Sedona	9:00 AM, Giant gas station at 89A and Tortilla Dr., just east of Dry Creek Road.
drive	•  On I-17, drive north to the Highway 260 turnoff, exit 287, at Camp Verde. • Turn left and go northwest on Highway 260 to Cottonwood. • Turn right and go northeast on Highway 89A to west Sedona. • Turn left onto Dry Creek Road. Follow it north for 2.9 miles to a stop sign. • Turn right onto the paved Long Canyon Road. Take it for 0.6 miles, where you will see an unpaved road to the left. • Boulders block the entrance to the road and you can park in front of them.
