| We will celebrate the holiday weekend with a few hikes in the White Mountains. Please join us for one hike or all of them. It is a long drive to this area , so if you can, plan to stay one or two nights. Some of us are renting houses that can accommodate more people. Just ask. There are numerous rentals available in the Show Low / Pinetop area on Airbnb or VRBO. | ||

Saturday, August 31st – Thompson Trail We will meet at Home Depot, already in our carpools at 5:30 AM and head on up. Many fishermen have discovered an active section of the river along the Thompson Trail and have returned again and again for the ambience and solitude. Tall Douglas fir, willow and aspen line the 6.5-mile (round trip) trail that follows the West Fork of the Black River. With a grant from the Heritage Fund, the Thompson Trail was built in a combined effort by the U.S. Forest Service, the Arizona Game and Fish Department and several volunteers. It is noted as some of the most beautiful country within the district. "C" |
