| the hike |
This section of the Arizona Trail is west of Pine and runs generally in an east-west
direction. We will do a one way hike, dropping a car at the Pine Trailhead and
continuing north on SR 87 to Strawberry. Turn west on Fossil Creek Road and then
south on FR 428 and 194, with about 3 miles on unpaved roads. We’ll start on
Hardscrabble Mesa and follow a power line for 3 miles before we descend into Oak
Creek (no, not the one near Sedona).
Chuck Parsons led us on an in and out hike from Pine Trailhead to Oak Spring a few years ago in November. There was very nice fall color at that time. Hopefully we will see that as we climb out of Oak Spring and on up to Pine Trailhead. Required: • Sturdy hiking boots • At least 3 liters of water • Rain poncho • Hat, sunblock, sunglasses • Lunch or snacks Recommended: • Hiking poles • Camera |
