Arizona Trailblazers Hiking Club
Otero Canyon Day Hike
when Trip Report : January 28, 2012
where Mazatzal Mountains
the hike     We will hike FR 160 as we cross Sycamore creek several times. At “RX” we leave the road and hike a dirt bike trail scrambling over some easy but neat rock formations. At “TX” we start bushwhacking up the canyon.
This is an out and back hike that could be “B” or “C” depending on your turnaround point. I have hiked to “L2” (6.2mi round trip. 650 ft). If we can make it to the spring it adds another 6.5 miles and 1300 ft (dotted green) From atop the bike climb hill just south of “TX” offers great views of Boulder and Pine Mountains.
We may bushwhack to dotted purple (FR 160) as return route if we get rocked out before we reach the spring. Or dotted black if we only get a short distance after “L2”.
