the hike |
Imagine an Arizona landmark named after you OR: A great explorer?
A notorious bandit? An asbestos engineer?
This is a repeat hike. See (Oct 2013 trip report) and (Oct 2015 trip report). However, it will be the first time since the fires of 2016 Drive US 60 to Globe then AZ 188 toward Roosevelt Lake. Continue on AZ 288 toward Young, then park at the start of FR 489 on the southern edge of Sierra Ancha Wilderness. Hike the road alongside Pocket Creek (about 2.0 miles, 1600' elevation gain) among the oak, maple, lotus, walnut, and pine. Then bushwhack (0.7 miles, 600' elevation gain) to Zimmerman Point. Continue to bushwhack (dotted blue portion) the ridgeline enjoying the many views of Cherry Creek Canyon and Timber Camp Mountain. We plan to connect with Parker Creek Trail #160 at “PC TOP” and descend to the trailhead. See the GPS route. |
