Awards Day Hike

where	Cave Creek Regional Park
the hike	Member and non-members are welcome, just bring food or help with the event. There are many trails in Cave Creek Regional Park. We start on the Overton trail, which goes by the group ramadas. This is a low elevation hike. There are 3 loops possible: 2.3, 4.3 and 6.7. All start and end at the group ramada, they all go counter clockwise. They all go through beautiful desert areas.     I will lead the 6.7 mile loop and others will lead the shorter hikes. We all should be back at the ramada by a little after 11:00 AM. All the trails are well maintained and easy to follow, but cell phone coverage is spotty. All the trails have good vista points.     No glass bottles allowed, so have your drinks in cans or plastic. The group site is just past the Overton Trailhead. It is not marked, but is the first left after Overton. This event lets members and non-members, hikers and non-hikers get to gather and talk about what the club has done and what we plan to do. So come and join us for a fun time. The group ramada has access to a children’s play area. The play area has swings, slides and other things.     The weather may be sunny or not. Be prepared for extreme desert weather. Bring a hat, sunscreen and some rain gear. Even if it looks like rain, we will still do the awards. Required: •  Sturdy hiking boots •  At least 1 liter of water, ramada has water •  Hat, sunblock •  Potluck: Please sign up here. Recommended: •  Camera •  Hiking poles •  Camp chair. Park benches are hard. •  Heavy duty power cord with multiple outlets.

cost	There is $7 per vehicle charge or Maricopa County park pass to enter Cave Creek Regional Park. The club allows voluntary contributions of $5/non-member. Riders, please share gas expenses with the drivers.

meet in Cave Creek	8:00 AM in the parking lot of Cave Creek Regional Park Group Ramada. If people want, we can carpool from Carefree Highway & I-17 to Cave Creek Regional Park.
meet in Phoenix	7:40 AM in the Macdonald’s parking lot on the northeast corner of I-17 & Carefree Highway. Park away from the restaurant.
drive	•  Take I-17 to Carefree Highway. • Turn right and go east on Carefree Highway to 32nd street. • Turn left onto 32nd street. Go north 0.6 miles to Cave Creek Regional Park. • Take the park road (Cave Creek Parkway) to the first left after Overton Trailhead. • If you get to the horse lot, you have gone too far. • Park in the group lot.
