Ash Creek (Black Canyon Trail) Day Hike

the hike	Join me on this third venture on a historical trail that is part of a new section of the Black Canyon Trail along State Route 69 that has been expanding northward into the Prescott National Forest. We will start at the trailhead and head in a southerly direction across drainage and sandy washes that will eventually cross Ash Creek. From Ash Creek we will ascend in a westerly direction up an incline exposing excellent views of the Pine Mountain Wilderness to the east, the Bradshaws to the west. This area also serves as grazing grasslands for cattle. We will pass a green cattle gate at the top of a second summit. We will turn around after 5 miles heading back to the cars.    Moderate pace to enjoy scenery. meet	7:30 AM in the McDonald’s parking lot on the NE corner of I-17 & Carefree Highway, Tramonto Marketplace Park away from the entrance to McDonald’s.
drive	1.  From I-17 about 8 miles south of Camp Verde take the Dewey- Humboldt exit 278 for State Route 169. Turn left onto SR 169 and continue 5.5 miles to the Cherry Creek Road intersection past milepost 10. Turn left onto the dirt at South Old Cherry Creek Road/County Road 168 (not signed and shown on some maps as Hackberry Wash Road). Continue 3 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the right. 2. Park in the Black Canyon Trail area on your right. This is the Ash Creek Trailhead.
