Box Canyon to Martinez Mine Day Hike

The Box Canyon area is scenic but popular with ATVs. We can avoid the ATVs by taking
an unnamed tributary canyon, which is narrower but still very nice. Several boulder tangles prevent the
ATVs from going through, but are no barrier to hardy hikers. There may be flowing water in the
canyons, so I will wear my older hiking boots. We ascend the canyon until we meet an old road which
takes us to Martinez Canyon. This road is blocked to ATVs at a point before we reach the mine site.
Depending on how light or heavy the ATV traffic appears to be, we might consider returning by way of
Box canyon. If the ATV traffic is too heavy, we can return the same way we went in. Hike will be
cancelled in event of rain.
