Arizona Trailblazers Hiking Club
Devils Canyon Day Hike
when March 7, 2026 Saturday
where Superior
the hike The first obstacle encountered is a 40 foot dryfall, which is fairly easy to zigzag down. We continue down Hackberry canyon, a beautiful gorge with steep cliffs on both sides. Upon reaching Devils Canyon, thick tree coverage takes over. Take a right/south and head down the canyon. A trail rises slightly on the west side that bypasses the thickest foliage in the canyon bottom. We will stop at a feature labeled Peninsula Falls on some maps. Here we will stop for a snack and to admire the scenery. We will NOT continue to a feature called the Five Pools, due to the lack of a decent trail and overgrown vegetation.

This area will eventually be closed for copper mining.

Lunch optional in Superior after hike.

drive
•  From there we carpool to Superior on US 60 to Magma Mine Road on the south side near mile marker 231. This is also the turnoff for Oak Flat Campground. Follow this paved road for 1.5 miles to unmarked road on the left. Passing a pond, you will go through a parallel of fences and a coral. From here on its 4x4 terrain, high clearance. Continue on this rocky jeep trail. At about 1.65 miles from the gate, you enter a sandy canyon bottom.
You are looking for a windmill near a coral. From the windmill, turn east/down Hackberry canyon until the road ends.
