King’s Crown Peak Day Hike
when Trip Report : November 18, 2000
where Superior
the hike     King’s Crown Peak, 5541', offers a commanding view of the mountains and canyons east of Superior, the Dripping Spring Mountains, Picketpost Mountain, and the eastern part of the Superstition Wilderness. On the way we’ll enjoy colorful rock formations, Sonoran desert vegetation and wildlife.
    Start from Oak Flat and follow a rocky off-trail route northward to the summit. After lunch we’ll dip through the valley and climb a ridge before making our precipitous descent on the east side. Our return to Oak Flat is on a mine road through Queen Creek Canyon.

meet 7:00 AM at Home Depot in Mesa on the southeast corner of Power and US 60.
drive
•  Take US 60 east past Superior and through the Queen Creek Tunnel.
Continue east 1.9 miles past the end of the tunnel to Magma Mine Road, which is paved and has a parking lot by the highway on the right.
Turn right and park. You have reached Oak Flat Trailhead. There is additional parking on the other side of the highway, if needed.
