the hike |
Let’s start the year with a bang! After recovering from the New Years Eve festivities with a late-ish start- Let's meet and drive to
Globe to walk the Stairizona path.
We can take it at a reasonable pace and see some art and get some fresh air.
During the Covid lockdown,
the town of Globe invited artists to decorate historic staircases and now there is a series of 9 staircases,
365 steps , 3 bridges and 39 art attractions which comprise the long loop of 6.4 miles called Stairizona.
On the way we’ll enjoy colorful stair art, Sonoran desert vegetation and wildlife. Along the way, we will visit the Pickle Barrel Store, the historic Catholic Church and the Arts Center. We will also pass by a cemetery from 1873, the final resting place of some notorious folks. After our hike, we can visit one of the local restaurants El Ranchito or La Casita for an authentic lunch. This hike is described in PressReader.com - Globe, Az a fun day trip. After the walk, for the adventurous souls, let's go home via the Apache Trail (Az-88), newly repaired after a 6 year hiatus. This drive is not for the meek- it is 30 miles of dirt with high clearance, 4WD required. This drive is an Arizona treasure and should be experienced by all Arizona hikers. If you are not in the mood for a bumpy adventure, there is an option to go back on the 60, the way we came. |
