Lower White Canyon Day Hike
when Saturday, Febuary 17, 2024 Hike is full.
where Tonto National Forest, south of Superior
the hike     This loop hike starts at the southern end of of the very scenic White Canyon in the White Canyon Wilderness area. We drive several miles south on Battle Axe until we come to a large corral. Beyond this point 4x4, HC vehicles are required. We drive several more miles until we come to a gate, where we park and begin our hike. We follow an old road for a half mile, then turn north into White Canyon. After 2 miles in the canyon, we exit and head east over several ridges, eventually reaching a broad wash which we follow downstream back to our vehicles. White Canyon is beautiful, with several boulder tangles which will require scrambling and agility. All of this hike is off trail, so I am rating it as an A+.
