Walkin’ Jim Trail Day Hike

when	Trip Report : April 22, 2017
where	Cottonwood Creek west of Lake Pleasant
the hike	From the trailhead we will hike west along a well-worn path and cross over Cottonwood Creek. Follow the trail up the embankment and onto a plateau heading west toward the Hells Canyon Wilderness.     Bees buzzing in cottonwoods and the screams of red tail hawks will greet hikers in the spring along this trail. There is a good chance we will see some feral burros and other wildlife. Ocotillo burst into life after a summer rain, and barrel cactus have a healthy reddish glow. The Hieroglyphic Mountains loom on the near horizon as you wind your way through a variety of classic Sonoran desert terrain. Required: •  Sturdy hiking boots •  At least 3 liters of water •  Hat, sunblock, sunglasses Recommended: •  Lunch or snacks •  Camera

meet	7:00 AM at the Albertson’s Parking lot at Carefree Hwy & I-17. Park along the south wall east of the MacDonalds.
drive	•  West on the Carefree Highway (AZ 74) to Castle Hot Springs Road. • Turn right and go about 5 miles and park in the lot on the left side of the road.
