where Superstition Mountains
the event The Cougar Shadow happens 2 times a year at the equinox. In 2026 the equinox is March 20, so we should have a good show. This happens because of the rock formation in the Superstition Mountains that creates a shadow that looks like a cougar hunting. This is a limited time event, just 30 minutes before sun set. Only on sun sets near the equinox, also only seen from a limited viewing angle.

meet 4:30 PM at Home Depot in Mesa on the southeast corner of Power and US 60. The number of parking spaces is limited, so carpooling is good.

•  Take the Superstition Freeway and US 60 east to Goldfield Road.
Turn left and go north on Goldfield Road to Superstition Rd, find a place to park.
