the hike |
Fish Creek Canyon would be world-famous if it were anywhere, but Arizona!
You’ll see spectacular rock formations, sycamores, cottonwoods and
desert mountain scenery that will curl your camera.
We’ll start from Tortilla Trailhead, swing by Tortilla Ranch, and
then hike up the JR trail until we get to an old mine.
This trail overlooks Fish Creek Canyon and you will get a grand vista
of the upper reaches of the canyon. We will then continue onto the Hoolie Bacon trail. Some where
in here we will break for lunch/snack. We will then go off trail in a gulley to Peters trail.
Those who would like a shorter hike can just take a longer lunch under the sycamores that make up the start of Peters trail. We will take Peters back to Tortilla Creek. Because the trail runs right next to the creek and in some places in the creek, if it is running we may get our feet wet. Peters Trail runs though the heart of the Superstitions over to Weaver’s Needle where it joins the Peralta trail system. The complete Peters trail may be a good backpack for a future spring time. After hikes on this side I normally stop at Tortilla Flat, but just there on a weekday and it was over run with poeple. If we do an after hike meal it will have to be in AJ |
