Dave finds a rock with a window.

This trail will also take you up to Dobbins Point, but we bypass the Dobbins Point/Holbert Access Trail and stay on the main Holbert Trail up to N. Buena Vista Road. Crossing over the road, we continue a short distance on the Holbert Trail to the S. TV Road. Here we hike on the right hand side of the road and come to the National Trail sign that takes us below the towers. Along the way, we stop for lunch.

Picnic in the sky.

Continuing on, the National Trail goes high above Summit Road for some pretty views.

We reach Telegraph Pass and cross over Summit Road to the Kiwanis Trail. Heading down the canyon, we pass what the park service calls four dams, and several petroglyph rocks.

Thoughtful of them to build it right beside the trail. [photo by Lance]

Yes, this is the way you build a stone dam. [photo by Lance]

Alas, the artist isn’t around to speak for himself. [photo by Lance]

At the bottom of the Kiwanis Trail, we head to the right and cross Phoenix South Mountain Park Road to the Las Lomitas Trail. On this trail, we cross over this same road twice more. Eventually the trail turns into the Box Canyon Trail and we are back at our vehicles.

It managed to stay partly cloudy almost to the very end, for a pleasant day of hiking!
