Driving by Flagstaff on our way back from the Zion camping trip on September
20th we saw a glimpse of yellow - the first signs of fall - on the
San Francisco Mountains.
So Lin and I decided we needed to come back as soon as possible to see more
fall colors.
On short notice a hike to the Inner Basin with destination Lockett Meadow was
added to the schedule and seven hikers signed up.
We made it to the trailhead just in time to secure a parking spot.
At 9:45 we started our quest for the best fall color pictures.

This area is recovering nicely from a forest fire.

The ground is covered with gold.

Tammy, Heather, Carol, and Mary find a cool spot for a break.

Overhead is a blaze of glory.

The view leaves nothing to be desired.

There is still some green in the forest.

Yes, this is the Inner Basin.

The trail is well signed.
We took our time going up to Lockett Meadow.
By the time we got to the turnaround point we were ready for a snack.

Let’s sit down for a while.

... but the best views are upward.

Like lumps on a log.

We’re on the trail, heading back down.

What a view!

Autumnal glory.

Merrily we roll along.
For the best picture, look up.

Pavilions in the sky.

So glad we are here today.

Dark evergreens in a colorful forest.

A blaze of glory.

It’s even better on the way down.

Our trail was once a road.

The fires of autumn.
After seven miles and 4.5 hours on the trail, everyone had taken enough
pictures and we were ready to pay the new microbrewery/pub that opened in
the former Busters location a visit and refuel.
Since the place had just opened the week before, not everything went
smoothly, but given some time this is a place to visit again.

Chowing down.
