Driving by Flagstaff on our way back from the Zion camping trip on September
20th we saw a glimpse of yellow - the first signs of fall - on the
San Francisco Mountains.
So Lin and I decided we needed to come back as soon as possible to see more
fall colors.
On short notice a hike to the Inner Basin with destination Lockett Meadow was
added to the schedule and seven hikers signed up.

We made it to the trailhead just in time to secure a parking spot.
At 9:45 we started our quest for the best fall color pictures.

| Front: | Heather, Monika, Carol, Mary, Ralph | |
| This area is recovering nicely from a forest fire.
| The ground is covered with gold.
| Tammy, Heather, Carol, and Mary find a cool spot for a break.
| Overhead is a blaze of glory.
| The view leaves nothing to be desired.
| There is still some green in the forest.
| Yes, this is the Inner Basin.
 | The trail is well signed.
We took our time going up to Lockett Meadow.
By the time we got to the turnaround point we were ready for a snack.
| Let’s sit down for a while.
 | ... but the best views are upward.
| Like lumps on a log.

| We’re on the trail, heading back down.
| What a view!
| Autumnal glory.
| Merrily we roll along.
| | |
| For the best picture, look up. |
| Pavilions in the sky.
| So glad we are here today.
| Dark evergreens in a colorful forest.
| A blaze of glory.
| It’s even better on the way down.
| Our trail was once a road.
 | The fires of autumn.
After seven miles and 4.5 hours on the trail, everyone had taken enough
pictures and we were ready to pay the new microbrewery/pub that opened in
the former Busters location a visit and refuel.
Since the place had just opened the week before, not everything went
smoothly, but given some time this is a place to visit again.
| Chowing down.
