Neil Dennis led this hike.
12 hearty hikers met at the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead at 6:30, just as the sun
was coming up and a chill was in the air.
After our revered photographer, Bill M., took the group picture. We followed Neil on
a loopy series of trails named Latigo, Hackamore, Tarantula and Dare A Sarah to a
less known rocky outcropping called Scorpion Point.

Mare Czinar described this area in an article for the Arizona Republic in
January, 2021, and it sounded intriguing, so we checked it out and decided to share
it with the group.
Some of us have hiked from this trailhead many times and covered the whole area,
but have missed Scorpion Point. Thanks to Mare Czinar, we now have a new destination
hike to share with others.
The entire hike through the regular desert scenery was dotted with interesting rock
formations and the group had lots of fun finding and naming the shapes in the rocks.
We all agreed, Vicki found the best one and named it “You’ve Been
Mooned.”

We stopped for a snack break At Scorpion Point and then headed back by the same
route until close to the trailhead when we decided to take a small detour which added
a half mile and more scenery to the trek.
Thanks to Vicki and Bill for the great photos!
