It gets plenty rugged.

Today was a banner day. We signed up 3 new members to the AZHC hiking club from our regular Thursday hiking group. Welcome to Pat, Pam and Roberta (Robbi)!

At first light, 10 hikers met ready to explore the desert and stretch their legs. After introductions, and a group photo taken by a kind stranger, Neil Dennis led us on a trek west, then up a ravine to a scenic saddle with many interesting outcroppings that would make great rock climbing practice—but not for us today.

We turned and headed over to join the trail 100 and stopped to introduce the group to our unique Saguaro, Narly Charly. Continuing east on trail 100, we followed it all the way to the trailhead on Tatum Blvd, where there are very few parking spots. Neil explained that later in the year during the cooler weather we plan to do a through hike on trail 100, which will end at this trailhead. More on this later.

The trail isn’t too rough here.

It seems the caterpillar and the butterfly migration has passed by and we saw just a few lizards today and not even many bugs, except flies that hang out around the restrooms.

We arrived back at the cars while the temp was still mild, and everyone seemed to enjoy our walk.
