Twenty-three hikers took off from the TH, in three groups to complete the lollipop of Hawks Nest, Desert Tortoise and Valle Verde trails making the stem and traveling counterclockwise the Cactus Wren and Great Horned Owl loop. It was a chilly 42 degrees, but the old adage “Be Bold, Start out Cold” was proven once again… We made several quick stops along the trail to shed outer-ware as we warmed up. What was of most note, on this hike, was the profusion of flowers. Yellow poppies in abundance – most, however, due to the cold were not open to their full glory. Yet more yellow on the Brittle Bush, Desert Mallow, and Primrose. Touches of blue and purple from the Lupine and Hyacinth in an otherwise green desert.
