Seven members wanting to escape the hot weather in Phoenix drove to the cool heights of Kendrick Peak. The day was overcast, with possible showers, but the mountainside was green with lots of flowers.

We hiked at our own pace, as there is only one trail up the mountain. This trail is all uphill, but there are long switchbacks that help the hiker during the ascent.
Debbie was the first to the old fire watcher’s cabin, followed by Li and myself.
There were clouds building to the south, so we continued to hike to the summit. Once on the summit, we could see the Vermillion Cliffs to the north and had nice views all around us. Chris joined us and we stayed long enough for pictures and a snack.

The storm to the the south was building and moving in our direction, along with some lightening. I decided to cut our break short because I wanted to get off the summit and ridge of the mountain. We picked up Michael who was almost on the ridge and headed down. Part way down we heard thunder up the peak and a steady drizzle began. We arrived back at the trailhead, somewhat wet, but otherwise happy with the hike.
