We began in Westwing Community Park parking lot. The Trailhead sign is there, next to the trail that runs northwest along Westwing Parkway, crosses the parkway to High Desert Drive for a block before picking up as a trail again along the block walls of homes. The trail winds its way past two cul de sacs and then begins up the mountain. This is a lollipop shaped trail. I pointed out a bunny I saw on the way, which was met with some disdain by this group of experienced hikers. Seven hikers this day, began at 6am when it was still just 77° and two and a half hours later, when it was 86°, everyone had left the parking lot to go on with their day.
There wasn’t much shade, but we moved at a good pace. The trail was rocky and challenging, but the views were worth it. Saw more lizards than people on the trail.
