Trailblazers are ready for Glacier Gorge.
|
By Jan D, 18 hikers were ready to go again on our last full day in Rocky Mountain National Park. We had timed entry passes for 8am, so
after a hot breakfast we met up at the park & ride on Bear Lake Rd. The shuttles ran every 10 minutes so we made quick time to
the Glacier Gorge Trailhead.
Starting at 9172 feet, the trail is not difficult, but is certainly breathtaking - both literally and figuratively.
The scenery was absolutely amazing with panoramic views, waterfalls, and of course, lakes. We spread out over the trail,
some taking our time and others eager to reach Gem lake - a small “gem” just above Mills lake. About 10 hikers continued on
to Gem Lake where a large boulder waited for us to claim as our destination picnic spot. We then headed back down the trail
where we picked up the rest of our hikers for the trip home.
Below, we have pictures of Alberta Falls, Jewel Lake, Gem Lake, the gorgeous Rocky Mountain Vistas and of course, hikers.

Sprague Lake
On the way back to the Y, some of us decided to stop at Sprague Lake, also on the Bear Lake corridor.
We were given a tip that this was the most likely place to spy a moose. Of course, we had to see a moose!
And, we were not disappointed. Mama Moose was busy snacking in the middle of the lake, where she could easily stand.
Baby moose could not, so he/she was prancing around on the bank when it wasn’t swimming out to check on Mom. Mom finally
left the lake when baby got out of sight past the tourists. She clearly was used to visitors as the crowds did not seem to upset her.
After our moose visit, we happily joined the rest of the group for an overdue lunch at a local brewery.
