Thirteen of us set out for Peter's Canyon, a hike that was new to all of us but one. We started at the overflow parking lot behind Tortilla Flats, following a well-trod trail that had not existed the last time I did this hike. The trail follows Tortilla Creek for a short distance, then climbs between two low hills and reenters Tortilla Canyon.
Special welcome to new members Suk-King and Ron.

Off we go.

We followed this canyon for about a mile, then took a hard right turn into Peter's Canyon. This very rugged and scenic canyon slowly ascends deeper into the Supes. Usually, there is running water and several deep pools and waterfalls along the way. This time everything was dry but for a few small puddles. We started early to avoid the heat, which turned out a good decision, as this was one of the warmest days this season. One of several boulder tangles we climbed through.

More boulder scrambling

We reached this pool around noon when the temperature was beginning to rise. We were told there was a hidden ladder, but were unable to find it. Unable to find an easy way beyond, we gave up and started back. This hike was only about 7 miles, but is definitely an A hike due to the boulder scrambling.
