Sixteen intrepid Trailblazers tame the red rock wilderness.

Desert varnish marks the top of Angel Falls.

Angel Falls! An enticing name for a hike that is just one of many scenic
hikes in the Sedona area.
And because of that, the club had a lot of enthusiastic hikers sign up
for this one.
|

Who would have thought of putting up a stone bookshelf?
|
The day was beautiful and sunny, a little warm but easy to handle.
|

Wilson Mountain towers over the falls on the east.
|

Hmmm. Those rocks look mighty steep.
|
|
I had tried this trail some 15+ years before but my girlfriends and I
had gotten turned around and by the time we found the trail it was too
late in the day to keep going.

Ted said he would be glad to lend guidance if I would “lead”
the hike, so with his expert help, we were soon hiking on the right trail
and down a creek bed on our way to Angel Falls.
|

Enough climbing.
We’ve found the perfect picnic spot.
|

It’s downstream on the way back — mostly.
|
We encountered water in the creek and were hoping to find water at
the falls, but it was not to be.
But the beautiful red rock formations were still enough to keep
us in awe of Mother Nature!
We had lunch sitting on the rock below Angel Falls.

Canyoneering, Sedona style.
|
|
We began our trek back with guidance from Bob’s GPS (handy little
gadgets to have!) to find the trail that veers off from the creek.

The spires of Wilson Mountain and the Barrelhouse are inspiring sights.

Springtime in the red rock country!
|

Heading on down.
It seems that we’ve been this way before.

Another beautiful day in sunny Arizona, hiking another scenic trail
with a wonderful group of hikers!
Who could ask for more?

Supplemental Report

Eileen Root was our hike leader to Angel Falls, but as navigator I showed everyone
the way. There’s a new trail from the Brins Mesa Trail over to Mormon Canyon.
It isn’t easy to find the way back down, so I marked it with a cairn and
then overlooked it. We had to backtrack a short distance.
Anyway, some of the pictures turned out.
