We partnered with the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Black Mesa Ranger District to
clean up a section of the General Crook Trail #140 between Rim Top Trailhead and Carr
Lake Trailhead.
We crossed the Woods Canyon Lake access road (FR 105) during our inaugural event and discovered the tread (trail) was either washed away or covered with new growth. We worked with a Forest Service to blaze a new path (ridges along naturally occurring ditches, berms around water sinks, paths around downed trees) marking with plastic ribbons, trail markers and flags. We will hike the Eastern section, starting from the Mogollon Campsite and ending at the Rim Top Trailhead. In addition to our normal clean up activity, we will check out the new trail for any remaining issues. We will rendezvous at the Rim Campout site (Mogollon Campsite). We will distribute gloves and trash bags and travel north across the Rim Road ((FR300) and intersect the General Crook Trail. We hike east along the trail and cross the Woods Canyon Lake access road (FR 105). From there we will travel ESE along the new trail. When the trail intersects the old rim road, we will return along the same route back to the Mogollon campsite. |
