where Sitgreaves National Forest
the hike     Summer time, and the hikin’ is easy on the Mogollon Rim east of Promontory Butte. Enjoy the breeze and sweeping panoramas of the Rim Lakes Vista Trail, returning through the forest on the Military Sinkhole and General Crook Trails.
    Those who prefer a longer hike can add the Meadow Trail for an additional two miles.
    The Rim Lakes Vista Trail has been re-routed so that it doesn’t go near the communications tower or the road leading to it. The trail now takes a route eastward and connects with the old trail farther north.  See GPS Map.

meet 8:00 AM at Rim Top Trailhead.
drive
•  Take the Beeline Highway (Arizona 87) north to Payson.
Turn right and go east on Arizona 260.
Drive east 29 miles, past Kohls Ranch to the top of the Mogollon Rim.
Take the first left turn, on FR 300, toward Woods Canyon Lake.
Go west a quarter mile to Rim Top Trailhead, where the hike begins.
There is a restroom here.
