the hike     Join me on this hike that is present in the lower portion of the Mogollon Rim that will end in an overlook on the upper portion of West Clear Creek National Wilderness. The hike starts on Forest Road 142G, one of several rough dirt roads that wander among junipers and a stand of tall Ponderosa Pines 23 miles east of Camp Verde. At approximately 1.5 miles we will encounter The V. Lazy Cabin that was built in the late 50s but is now a dilapidated homestead. The cabin is the focal point of a rickety ranch spread with a barn, a well, corrals and an outhouse that remains somewhat intact due to decades of patch work jobs. A corrugated metal roof sags over boarded up windows and asphalt shingles. Beyond the corrals, we will open a gate eventually leading to Macks Tank No. 1. Forest Road 142G intersects Forest Road 13 on the left; hikers will continue on Forest Road 142G on the right. Forest Road 142G will then intersect 9376C where the hikers will take a left turn. The group will continue past a sign marked Rim Tank Basin. Cliffs of the basal-laden walls of West Clear Creek will come into view where the hikers will stop for lunch.
The hikers will then head back to the cars.
Pace: Moderate, easy pace. This hike is rocky in sections where hiking boots and sticks are recommended. Layered clothing is also recommended because the trail can be very windy. If you require a fast paced, highly aerobic workout, this is not the hike for you!
