Spur Cross Trail NNE to Old Gate, passing into Tonto National Forest.
Several Creek/Wash crossings that might be sand and stones or water and stepping stones, or a bit of splashing. Bring poles and water shoes, high boots and short pants ;-) at your disgression.
We’ll hike into Chalk Canyon to petroglyphs, fossils, hawk’s nest, multi-person metates and valley vistas, where we'll stop to look around and have a snack
On the return trip, we’ll take the Metate Trail instead of Spur Cross past the Solar Oasis and the original Spur Cross Dude Ranch ruins to come back to start.
PortaPotties but no water at start. Maricopa County pass covers entrance. Otherwise $3.00.
• Sturdy hiking boots
• At least 3 liters of water
• Rain poncho
• Hat, sunblock, sunglasses
