Ever marvel at the beautiful Dacite Cliffs as you drive to the Peralta parking area?
This scenic but difficult hike starts at the Peralta Trailhead. We’ll go about
⅓ mile up Peralta before we turn left and bushwhack up a slope about 800'.
We’ll travel over to the top of the cliffs and visit at least two places for great views to the south and below. From there we’ll continue to bushwhack up and over a couple hills toward the Robber’s Roost area. We will hike down into the Robber’s Roost for a lunch. From there, the hike takes us on trail down to Freemont Saddle and over to the start of Upper Barks Canyon. Upper Barks is a scenic and fun hike. In just over a mile or so, we’ll intercept the Bluff Springs trail. After a short distance we’ll encounter Lower Barks Canyon. We’ll then take the Lower Barks about 2.1 miles down to the Lost Dutchman Trail. The last 1.1 miles will be on trail. Expect some rock climbing, boulder and rock hopping, some water pools, and a little catclaw on this strenuous hike. Hopefully we’ll be done early enough for everyone to be home for Super Bowl that day. Bring plenty of fluids, snack for at least 2 short breaks and a lunch. Gloves are recommended. Fully charged phone or camera. |
