South Mountain Park
January 5, 2021
by Deirdre Sparling
group
Lisa, Sharon, and Deirdre

Two club members and one guest met in the S. 19th Ave. parking lot at 9:30 AM on a hazy morning and started up the Ma-Ha Tauk Trail. We hiked 2.4 miles and 538 feet up and down Ranger to the Derby Trail, where we turned east and walked a short distance to connect with the Ranger Trail heading southwest.

Sharon and Lisa are having a good time.

We climbed steadily up another 662 feet on Ranger to connect with the National Trail, where we turned east. We stopped a bit to chat with two horseback riders who had a third horse and a dog. (I took serval photos of them and I have no idea why they aren’t in my photo stream!)

Thereafter, we continued a short distance on National, climbing to a hill where we enjoyed lunch, conversation, and the views.

Return was the by the same route in reverse for a total distance of 6.4 miles, +-1,447' gain, 3 hours duration.

This was a great hike with views and nonstop interesting conversation. Many thanks to member Sharon and guest Lisa for joining me and making this trek so enjoyable!
